Departments
The Fire Research Department
The Fire Research Department is engaged in issues related to fire safety of civil structures and other buildings occupied by people, the issues of electrical engineering within the scope of voltage not exceeding 24 kV; development of design assumptions and assistance in designing of buildings, tunnels, underground stations, stadiums and other civil engineering structures, as well as inspections of systems and acceptance of works related to fire safety of facilities.
The Fire Research Department supervises the work of the Fire Testing Laboratory.
The Thermal Physics, Acoustics and Environment Department
The Department is engaged in issues of heat and moisture exchange in building envelope elements, rooms and buildings; rationalisation of the use of energy in buildings and their technical heating, cooling, air conditioning and ventilation systems.
The Department is also engaged provision of durability, safety, effectiveness of performance and convenience of use of technical systems in buildings, heat sources, heat distribution networks, water supply networks and systems, as well as sewer networks and sanitary and drainage systems, household sewage treatment appliances quality of air in buildings, effects of products and civil structures on health and environment during their lifetime and sustainable construction; the issues of construction acoustics, city acoustics, interior room and installation acoustics, as well as protection of the environment against noise and vibrations.
The Department provides environmental assessments of construction products (EPD) according to EN 15804 and ISO 14025 standards.
The Department supervises the work of the Thermal Physics, Acoustics and Environment Laboratory.
The Building Elements Engineering Department
The Department is engaged in issues of (external and internal) lightweight building envelope elements, including curtain walls and partition walls, metal and layered cladding of walls and roofs (including sandwich panels), window and door joinery, gates, safety railings and glass balcony enclosures, suspended ceilings, flooring (including raised flooring), construction glass, skylights, roof slabs; construction fittings, opening and closing mechanisms, technical safety measures for use of buildings and protection of properties in civil structures, sanitary ware and other ancillary building components.
The department supervises the work of the Building Elements Laboratory.
The Construction Materials Engineering Department
The Department is engaged in issues of performance of construction products and material conditions for durability of civil structures and the issues of protection of buildings and building components, including: concrete structures, reinforced concrete structures, metal and wooden structures against corrosion factors; the issues of waterproof barriers; the issues of materials and technology in terms of finishing techniques in construction.
The department supervises the work of the Building Materials Laboratory.
The Building Structures, Geotechnics and Concrete Department
The Building Structures, Geotechnics and Concrete Department is engaged in testing, evaluation of technical condition and studies of civil structures, including protection of the existing and new civil structures against mining impact, recognition of soil for foundation of civil structures and cooperation of substrate with foundations and civil engineering structures.
The use of construction products, assessment of their performance properties, development of components of civil structures in terms of material engineering, testing of concrete components and evaluation of its usability as a construction material; testing and static and strength calculations of construction elements, testing of all types of fasteners used for joining structural metal, concrete, masonry and wooden elements.
The Department supervises the work of the Building Structures, Geotechnics and Concrete Laboratory.
